Trisha has long held a philosophy that anything she's going to put out should be something she'd still be proud of recording 10 years down the line, and as a result, she's got a history of recording songs that balance nice melodies and meaty lyrics. She liked Josh, and that was a good start toward getting her to commit to "Another Try."
"I was a fan of his already," she said on the national radio show GAC Nights: Live From Nashville. "I just think he's the real deal. Occasionally something'll come along that'll really grab my attention, and I just think he's got a great voice. I think he's a nice guy, and I just think he gets it."
Still, the song had to pass her personal litmus test.
"When he asked me to sing on his record, I was immediately intrigued, just because I love his voice," she said. "But I wanted to hear the song, you know, and just make sure it was right, and when that song arrived in the mail, I was just like 'This is a hit.' And it's beautiful. The song is beautiful, and so I said yes. When I got there, [I tried to] give it those little nuances to make it special, and I was really happy with the way it came out. I think it's beautiful."
America apparently agrees. "Another Try" is currently in the Top 20 on the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart and Top 10 on GAC's Top 20 Country Countdown.
Josh and Trisha have several things in common, besides being duet partners. They both record for MCA Records, and they're both former students at Nashville's Belmont University.
