Of course the focus of the fan club is always JOSH TURNER! Then, I believe it should make sure that benefits touch the 1st class JOSH fans. All the rage in most companies/businesses is to offer incentives/benefits to the people who in a company/business commit and embark to make the place better. Why should it be any different here at the JOSH TURNER Fan Club? Instead of giving out MnGs to ‘anyone’ on a lottery basis, I believe the MnG policy should be revamped. Just like in any company/business, rewards and benefits usually go to dedicated members that deserve the benefits because of performance and participation above and beyond. Anyone can join JOSH TURNER’s fan club, but that doesn’t give them the right to be awarded/rewarded before a dedicated long standing member who contributes and makes this site a better and a more interesting place. Yet, loyal members are thrown into a lottery with members who bring nothing but a membership ID, a blank photo space and closed mouths. Even after winning the lottery 99% of the members picked never come back on the board to say thank you, let alone take time to post comments or pictures. I see all the MnG fan photos posted of members who’ve never utter a word…is this FAIR, that they should be chosen over those who contribute to this site? No, it isn’t right to give the non-contributors the same privileges. Here are some of my ideas that I hope the MCN Staff will discuss with Lang Scott and consider changing.
1. The MnG selectees should include only members who have been in the Josh Turner fan club for a year or longer.
2. The MnG selectees must have a picture in the community register ( I bet those blank spaces will fill up fast).
3. The MnG selectees must have shared in community blogs or have posted pictures from a JOSH concert/event.
I think it is important to narrow the lottery pool (since so few fan club members are selected) by eliminating the slack spectators and recognize/reward members who bring activity to the fan club.
So many true fan club members want a MnG and I think it is important to recognize and reward these members who keep the board active and add their enthusiasm by participating and why not allow these genuine fans to have several MnG opportunities throughout the year. Why should someone who only purchases a membership to get a MnG that has never shown any interest (except for a MnG) in the JOSH fandom be rewarded over someone who has proved they are on the JOSH team with daily positive remarks, posts and pictures. It just seems wrong that my chances for a MnG are up to the luck of the draw with persons who don’t even know a thing about JOSH or with persons who’ve been a member for a month. When you see all the various tags on MnG selectees very few are from the fan club. So why shouldn’t the’ crème de la fan club’ be chosen for MnGs? I hope I have sparked a conversation about the MnG selection so that valuable, outstanding, loyal, and dedicated JOSH fans will reap the benefit.
You certainly make some
You certainly make some interesting points sito!! I have not used the MnG feature of my membership yet, so I am not entirely sure about all of the fine points of the process. But I certainly have to agree with you that there should be a way that the more devoted fans should, at the very least, be considered first for a MnG before the "casual" fans (so to speak). How exactly that could be done is certainly up for discussion, but you've certainly given some great ideas for the management team to consider!! Kudos to you as always sito for your passion for Josh, his music, career and fans!! (-:
Although this is not an
Although this is not an entirely popular topic with some fans, thank you NYJoshFan for understanding the difference between ordinary and remarkable. I don’t know if any of my suggestions will get implemented, but I do know that the MnG lottery we now have isn’t a ‘Fair Selection’ in my opinion.
okay is it Josh thats wanting
okay is it Josh thats wanting to do this or the management???
No Hannah, I brought up the
No Hannah, I brought up the topic to change the MnGs, because I believe those who share, should get the best share of benefits!
I am a huge Josh Turner fan
I am a huge Josh Turner fan too. In fact I am just as loyal a fan as you are. I have been to 10 concerts in the last 3 years and have been to the fan club party twice. I might not participate much on the fan club web site (I do have a full time job and a family) but I enjoy it as much as the other fans. As for pictures, I have tried several times to post pictures on here but the size is wrong and I am not computer savvy enough to figure out how to change it. So, in my opinion I think all benefits should be available to all fans no matter how active we are on here. I have never utilized the meet and greet lottery yet but I am glad it is available if I want to.
VJ, this is exactly what I’m
VJ, this is exactly what I’m talking about ‘Performance & Participation’. If you tell your full time employer that you might not participate like other workers in your company who achieve success, because you have a family and are not savvy with computers, yet you expect the same pay and benefits should be available to you…that is ridiculous! I doubt seriously that your thought process would be entertained by your employer or co-workers just as I’m having a hard time listening to your excuses. Thanks for being a loyal fan, and I bet you are glad the MnG is available, as am I, but I still feel the MnG selectees should be chosen for sharing, stand-out qualities and not because of membership.
You have opened an
You have opened an interesting discussion. I agree that I wish more Josh fans would contribute here, but I think there may be many reasons why they don't. One difference now is that anyone has access to the info posted here even if they are not registered. I think this prevents some from posting here. Also on the old board we knew how many people viewed our post even if no one commented. Now some people wonder if it is worth posting if no one reads it anyway. On the old site we fans also felt comfortable posting info about places to vote and support Josh. Now some fear posting that info here will help others support their favorites. I'm sure there are many other reasons, but I just wanted to share a few.
I also believe there are many ways to support Josh and his music and many fans are doing that. The list is long, but I will list a few that I know fans do. Buy his music and share his music by gifting to others and spreading the word. Attend his concerts whenever possible. I know many fans who take long road trips to see Josh in concert. Vote for his videos on GAC, CMT and Pure 12 Pack. Request his current single at as many stations as you can and remember the syndicated shows, too. They bring many spins. Many stations play the top five each night. Vote for Josh's single. Especially when a new single is released there will be face offs. Vote for Josh. Whenever and where ever it is possible to make a positive comment about Josh or his music, do it. Visit yes.com and see which stations are playing Josh's songs and thank them. Thank you is always appreciated. Register at ratethemusic and Nashville country Club and take the surveys giving Josh the top rating. Think of every way you can to show the country music industry you like Josh and his music and want to hear it. I guess what I am trying to say is that we don't always know who is supporting Josh and his music. I know many fans who work hard for Josh in many ways. There are so many things fans can do and I haven't begun to mention them all.
One more point is that when we see all those meet and greet pictures, they have not all gotten their M&G through the fan club. Many get them through the radio stations and other sponsors. Their support is also important to Josh. I do agree with you that I wish more fans who do get the M&G through the fan club would report here and share with us. I do hope they also say thank you, if not here then via e-mail or some other way.
I appreciate every one who does contribute here and wish more fans would. I believe any thing which gets fans more involved is good and this discussion may help. We just need to remember that we really don't know what other fans are doing to support Josh and his music and that some have more time than others. Every bit helps.
Meant to add that I don't
Meant to add that I don't have a picture posted, because I have tried and failed. lol Maybe I'll have to try again. I like to see pictures rather than blanks also.
Njoyjt, you always add such
Njoyjt, you always add such cordial input and allow me to enjoy your admiration for JOSH. I am convinced that you know what you are talking about when you give your sunshiny dissertation on all the ways that fans show their like, love, help and support for JOSH, I think this is tremendous too. However, you understand the MnGs are being gobbled up from everywhere leaving practically none available for the fan club members. When I attended Southern Nights concert in Nashville, this past May, not only was I disappointed being denied a MnG, but I was shocked to talk with a man in the Opry Mills Mall wearing a MnG badge tell me he didn’t even know JOSH TURNER, but his old lady (his choice of words) got it for him at her fan club. That really flipped me out realizing I was in that same lottery pool. I not only waited for 9 hours in the parking lot that day for JOSH, but I drove to TN. only having 2 hours of sleep the night before due severe storms in the area, still I would have paid for his badge of what he called misery. Immediately on my return home 5/16, I wrote a 5 page review for the fandom which I edited. I’m not suggesting that I’m better than anyone else, but I believe I should be given better odds at obtaining a MnG pass than I had then/have now. Quickly, I want to tell you a story about a family member who’s a doctor. He has 17 employees in his office. Every year, two women receive a thousand dollar Christmas bonus and naturally the other 15 employees complain, and feel cheated. I asked why he chose only those two employees. He told me the two sacrifice their lunch hours if he has to squeeze emergencies in, they’ve never taken sick days, both work OT anytime he requests, always smiling and, show up on time for their shifts. And the other 15 complain constantly about patients, one another, are tardy for work, take extra sick days and display a negative attitude toward doing any extra work. So he generously rewards the 2 positive ladies who invest their very personal best in his practice. Do you think that’s fair? What would you do njoyjt if you were in control of his business? I think the same principle apply here at the fan club as in the workplace. Although a few feathers get ruffled, I’m proud that the doctor in my family has the confidence to do the right thing. i still believe it is a reasonable request to ask for changes to the current MnG selection. It is not acceptable to me when I know you and I have given our very personal best on JOSH’s website to see someone with a membership that doesn’t give a hoot about JOSH TURNER wind up with a MnG!
I want to take a minute to address your comments about why fans don’t contribute here anymore. I agree with you about the access to information and I wish what happened in Vegas (the FC) stayed in Vegas (the FC). But remember this is the social-media age and frankly my dear I don’t believe anyone has any fears about putting anything out there. Facebook and Twitter umm…I agree with JOSH, I’m not a big fan of SM-much prefer reading English than trying to decipher codes. I have a hard time buying all the excuses why members don’t participate especially, since SM has allowed people to condense their ability to converse into a sentence and gives them permission to say anything, anytime, anywhere. Crazy24/7 constant connection.
Thanks for having much to say and sharing!
I’ve noticed njoyjt you’ve
I’ve noticed njoyjt you’ve never been selected as a ‘Featured Member’, so get some help with posting a picture. Stephanie (MCN) is so helpful to JOSH fans, I know if you ask for her assistance she will be delighted to solve your problem. It appears that this is not a membership lottery, only pictured members get into this lottery-so picture-up, so I can enjoy seeing you as the Featured Fan. Perhaps you’ll hang on the Home page for months like some have. I look forward to the day I see that member registry look like an Andy Warhol collage instead of an ‘In Memoriam’ tribute which it reminds me of now. I’ll be waiting for you picture to pop up.
Ok Sito, I love Josh and I
Ok Sito, I love Josh and I support him any way I can, but my family and my job come first. Supporting Josh is something I have to do in my spare time as money allows. I am not going to argue with you as your opinion matters little to me.
Well said.
Well said.
I've sat on my hands on
I've sat on my hands on commenting on anything, but I had to comment on this thread. SITO your name is new and I don't recall seeing it in the last 9+ years that Josh Turner has had a Fan Club or website. I was a member of the fan club, been to Josh's Opry induction ceremony, have seen him over 30 times in concert, been to fan club parties, been fortunate to have met him over the years, but I stopped renewing my membership. I stopped renewing frankly because Josh stopped performing within a few hours drive for a couple of years. I didn't see the point in paying for a membership when I didn't have a chance to meet him. Now you are saying just because I didn’t pay, post, prance around, put up a photo, that I’m not a loyal fan?
Another reason why I don’t post is the fact that this website and the community/message board has changed more times than I can count. Many other established fans that have been here since the beginning can testify to that. A couple of times there were NO warnings and all of our photos, concert reviews, posts, etc were gone instantly with no chance to save to repost later. After getting burned a couple of times, I gave up on posting any reviews or photos.
Why should someone “have” to put a photo of themselves? Some people don’t want their personal life all over the internet and no, not everyone has a Facebook, twitter, etc. Not only that, some people have a thing called a LIFE where they have other things to do with their friends and family than worry if someone is a “loyal” fan or not.
You spoke about the person who had no clue who Josh Turner was. That is the time to teach them who he is, what he sings, etc. I’ve met artists before that I didn’t know who they truly were until the show but I left a fan. Just because someone got a meet and greet via winning through a radio station, sponsor, etc doesn’t mean that they are not a fan. They would not have asked, attempt to win, etc if they were not a fan. Example, I’m not a fan of Eric Church. Do you see me calling into a radio station or asking my boss who is sponsoring for a m&g? Nope.
So, just because someone doesn’t post on here doesn’t mean they are a loyal fan. Whether you buy albums, concert tickets, or even tell someone about a song, you are a supporter of not only to Josh, the songwriter, the musicians, and their families. THAT is what being a loyal fan is about.
I’m impressed you wanted to
I’m impressed you wanted to comment on my blog. The topic was ‘Changing MnG Selection’. Of course I realize it is a hot button issue, but I think it should be looked at by MCN, and I expressed my opinions and asked for the MCN to consider. If you don’t agree, you are entitled to your opinion. Read my blog again because I didn’t say anything about a radio station MnG. Yes I’ve been a fan as long as you. I was on 2 other boards before and I posted a lot then also, anyway it’s nice to meet you. About the photos, I think it would be a polite thing to put a picture there-no one expects your picture (unless you want) use a picture of JOSH like I do. With all your years of doing JOSH things it would be nice if you’d write something about them in a blog. I kind of got the feeling you like to spread the word, well join us. I would enjoy hearing about your meetings with JOSH.
I'm sorry, I'm confused with
I'm sorry, I'm confused with this new message board set up on here that they call a blog. I saw someone else post about radio stations but saw you said, "However, you understand the MnGs are being gobbled up from everywhere leaving practically none available for the fan club members." Who is to say that those people are not Josh Turner fans? If they are not, I'm sure that they will become one after seeing them.
Let me give you a little history of the fan club. Back when it first started, up to 25-30 people were allowed to have a meet and greet. Then it was reduced to 16 then to 8. You fought against other members to get on the website at the precise time to click the button and sign up. Now if a family signed up, that took up many of the passes. You knew immediately if you got a pass or not. In turn, fans argued that it wasn't fair because they didn't have internet access, or if they did, two people going to a concert together couldn't register at the same time. Now with a lottery system, it allows everyone equal opportunity to have a chance for a meet and greet. With as many fans as Josh Turner has, do you truly think that Music City Networks has the time or manpower to see who has posted the most? Quantity doesn't always equal quality sometimes. How would it be fair to the person who has limited internet access to get denied because they don't post enough? Not everyone has every waking moment to sit and post on a board. Contrary to popular belief, a lot of people don't embrace putting their lives online. Not only that, most work, and have a family to care for.
You mentioned that you were on 2 other boards but I don't recall your name unless you had a different username.
As far as photos, I no longer post those online. In the past, someone was stealing fans photos and selling them on Ebay and other places claiming they took them. Like I mentioned before, I see no point in posting a full fledge review on Josh's site anymore given the history of them replacing boards every year there is a new album. Given that I haven't been able to see Josh perform in concert in over 3 years (has not performed near me in years), it is impossible to post a review. Many of the fans from the past no longer post because of the constant website changes. Plus, lives change and people move on. Not saying they move away from Josh, but they move away from a website community.
You should be glad that Josh Turner has a fan club, a fan club party, and the opportunities to have meet and greets with fan club members. Many artists have disband their fan clubs because fans were arguing who was the biggest fan and complaining about m&g. Several stopped having fan club parties because it was a race to see who can get to the front of the stage fighting. In Toby Keith's fan club, you are shoved in and out like a cattle gate with a quick photo, handshake, and photo. With Reba, Wynonna, or many others, you don't even get an autograph - just a photo and a quick hello. Some fanclubs don't even offer meet and greets with the artist.
Seeing that you have been fortunate to meet him at a fan club party, you should be honored and happy to have met him. There are many others that would LOVE to see their favorite performer. There are many artists that I have met over the years one time and I'm not greedy enough to beg for another. Some were via a fan club, some were radio, some were because I knew the sponsor or worked for the sponsor, I won a contest, or I was a friend. I cherish those memories with those artists and hope that others have the same opportunity.
Sito if there was a magic
Sito if there was a magic device to tell who is more of a fan I know you would win big time. After reading your posts here I know that magic device would also alert Josh Turner's security to watch for you. Just because you are obsessed enough to spend all your money, and live on this website doesn't mean you should get a better shot than me. My Aunt doesn't have a computer and she loves Josh, she sits back at a concert doesn't take pictures or cares about a website. I have met Josh a few times, and went to dozens of shows. I have driven 12 hours to see him. Last time I had one I let my sister go in my place.(I can imagine you crying about that one!)She is a bigger fan than me now. Do you listen to what Josh talks about? It seems you put him and this website on a pedestal. Seriously chill out. Half the time you are kissing up to Josh here and then complain and criticize people while pretending to be nice. You are a big fan and that's great. But you are not better than anyone here and if you got every meet and greet that wouldn't be fair. We should be discussing why Eye Candy wasn't a single. Not this stuff.
I wonder how I guessed that
I wonder how I guessed that SuperGoof knew something about magic. Thank you for the compliments you tried to give me. I appreciate your admitting you are an enormous JOSH fan like me (listening to JOSH music all the time, reading all my blog about JOSH, driving 12 hours to see JOSH, attending dozen of JOSH concerts and having an auntie and sister who share your passion). Perhaps you should follow your own advice-chill dude! Really, it was very nice of you to give your ticket away. Channel that nice moment when you post on here again-it’s nice to be nice until you cross a super goof. Show everyone what a wise guy I know you are and put up your discussion ‘Why EC wasn’t a single’. No need to be so envious of me since you have just as much opportunity as I do to be heard on this website. Remember you’ve just been with us a month and you're already as enamored with JOSH as I am or you'd be somewhere else spreading your magic!
1. I did not try to give you
1. I did not try to give you a compliment. You can keep the thank you.
2. Envious, really? That is what you got from my post? You might want to look that word up.
3. There are more fans that don't bother with the site than ones that do. That won't ever change. There is no fair way to measure who deserves a meet and greet.
4. From all I have "read" you seem to have an unhealthy obsession. Do you wake up in the morning thinking of only Josh and go to sleep thinking of only Josh? If you do, seriously take a step back.
5. Pedestal. See previous post.
6. Magic device? You don't like that? How about the Rude-o-meter. Then we can measure who is the least rude here and give them a meet and greet.
7. Eye Candy is awesome and you know it! No more need to discuss that one.
When I see Magic Device and
When I see Magic Device and Eye Candy in the same post...I can't help but think of that movie Magic Mike. Why wasn't Eye Candy on THAT soundtrack!
Magic Mike 2: Eye Candy!
Magic Mike 2: Eye Candy!
